a day of little accomplishment

woke at 11 or so this morning. napped from 12:30 until 5 or so. got some groceries -- mowed the lawn....now it's time for bed. again. wow. little accomplished today.
well, the lawn is no small feat, now that i think about it. the front yard is not so big, but our backyard is:
1. up a hill, requiring the hauling of a lawn mower up stairs;
2. made up of tall grass. very tall. tall like "maybe it'd be easier for it to go back to the way our forefathers saw it" tall.
3. a bit bumpy.

so yeah, no good times there. i'll need to make EWP come on over and mow sometime, as i've decided i just don't want to.

i also have loads of weeding to do. will i get it done? time will tell.

hard to believe that the weekend is over so fast -- but i suppose when you sleep away half of the damn day, monday will sneak up on you. mondays. crunch days at work. and i like the crunch...but it makes sunday nights tough. i was considering going out to watch movieoke tonight, but i lost momentum, somewhere between weeding the garden plot in front and weed-wacking the yard in back. yes, it was so long, we needed to weed wack it BEFORE taking the mower on it. gross. bad homeowners! bad!

oh, if anyone out there needs a website done for a FRACTION of what most places will charge, please consider checking out Platypus Man for your web design needs. dustin is working hard to start up his own business, so feel free to toss his name around to people you know.

10:53 p.m. crap. must...rise...by...6....

speaking of boba-fett...

i had the pleasure of seeing mr. dave swenson when he was in town briefly this weekend! we ate some grilled yummies at terry's place and dave, as usual, made me laugh until my gut ached. can't wait to see him at the Turf this july!

ahhh, shucks...

death by lucky charm?

so i was eating lucky charms and i somehow and quite literally inhaled a marshmallow -- i'm unsure as to what shap -- but for a moment the thought of dying because of a lucky charm did pass through my mind. then i coughed really, really hard and it dislodged.
now my throat hurts.
now what am i watching? why it's "young guns" on bravo!
what does this find sunday hold for moi? i'm not certain, but i'll bet that my night includes a little Movieoke at the local. if i'm still awake.

thank you, corporate chain restaurant!

no really! abbey and my mom went to a movie today, so in lieu of driving all the way from eagan to st. paul and then back out again, i'm killing a good hour or so at Panera, utilizing their free wi-fi and eating a cinnamon crunch bagel with honey walnut cream cheese and a cool dr. pepper to drink. ahhh, it's all about me (for 55 minutes)!
i need to do this more often -- get out of the house to write, to enjoy air conditioning that is nearly blowing me off of my comfy booth spot. i almost went to a park to just write -- not blog, but WRITE -- but in humidity? no good can come of that, i say.

and the agenda for the remainder of saturday? a mid-afternoon nap, perhaps, after i take abbey to her dad's. maybe a stop at the cherry pit -- an interesting bar near my house. by "interesting" i mean to say "has sign on the door banning any gang colors from entering the premises." so yeah, a precedent has been set, i guess -- but the general crowd SEEMED alright. (except for that one guy with a white supremacy tattoo singing really bad metal karaoke -- that's a bad apple, that one.)

i see a girl across the way coveting my ibook. that's right, rich girl, i've got one. wait, rich girl --- okay, she's probably not coveting, as i'm sure she's got one at home -- she's PITYING me for not having a powerbook, only an ibook. wait. i'm crazy.
another panera sight: a girl wearing a shirt that reads "SAVE WATER. DRINK BEER." i have nowhere to go from there.

the list of 5

okay, mr. chris cope has mentioned the list of 5, so i thought i should list mine. sort of a like a living will. but a living will that includes famous people i can have consequence-free sex with. (and dustin has one too, to be fair...)
1. trent reznor (you totally saw that one coming)
2. zach braff
3. ewan macgregor
4. john cusack
5. (empty slot)
dust and i discussed the idea of the five in great length once, and established that it must be someone with whom you otherwise have NO CHANCE in meeting. for instance, you can't go to a Rasputina show and decide that the cellist in the opening band is someone on your list. that is not a celebrity, that is just some stranger you want to nail. and dustin has objected to the inclusion of john cusack to my list b/c as he lives (i think) in chicago and we go to chicago once or twice a year, i could potentially meet him. yeah, location is the only thing that would keep john cusack from sleeping with me. sure...right.
as far as the empty slot, that is sort of kept as the floater spot. so i can see whatever movie with whatever star and say "he's so on my list," b/c there is always room for one more.
who is on YOUR list of five?

sure, SURE she meant it to be ironic.

Transcript from VH1 interview with that alanis singer girl:

VH1: You also did "Ironic." Do people still give you a rough time over it?

AM: God bless that little non-irony song! The sweetest irony is that it's a song called "Ironic" and it's not filled with irony. The best moment I had surrounding that song was in a bookstore in New York. Someone came up to me and said, "You do realize that song is not filled with ironies." I just nodded my head silently. And she said, "Is that the irony?" I just nodded my head and she walked out! [Laughs] It was such a sweet moment.

yeah, SURE she meant it that way.

Watching Kept

so i'm watching crap on tv right now. (as opposed to that high quality tv that i've been known to enjoy.) we were planning on checking out movieoke at the local, but i've since lost motivation to do things like find shoes, put on shoes, etc. so we'll try again next week. and it's always more fun to go out when you don't have to scrounge for coins in the couch.
but i digress. i'm watching that f**king Kept show on VH-1. basic premise: jerry hall wants a boy toy, so she's auditioning "hunks" and giving them tasks to win a place at the foot of her bed, apparently.
so i'm sure right now we're all in agreeance that it's crap.
and what's on vh-1 next? Strip Search -- finding "homegrown" men for a dance revue show. oy. sunday nights are something else.
just heard that sarah m. and andy might be putting an offer in on a house -- neat!
and this dolt on Kept is speaking about himself in the third person ---- that is SOOO three years ago.

sunday sunday

i'm watching "sabrina" on one of those classic movie channels.
humphrey bogart. ahh, sweet humphrey bogart.
i feel like i have nothing to say. i feel like there is nothing in this noggin of mine to offer.
i'm a bad blogger lately. bad blogger! bad blogger!
i'm somewhat inspired to remove the carpet from my room today. hmm. we'll see how long this inspiration lasts.

a nice lil' column

i'm not a huge fan of this columnist, but i like what he has to say about my 'hood, St. Paul's East Side...East Side, Represent!

Neighborhood snobs slander East Side — again

JOE SOUCHERAY

A lot of people in St. Paul are snobs when it comes to the East Side. The south, the west and the north come out all right, although the North End does occasionally experience the turned-up nose.

Just for the sake of conversation, let's go with specific compass designations. The west side of St. Paul is Highland Park, Mac-Groveland, Merriam Park, King's Maplewood, out that way. Man, oh man, they never get the snob treatment. That is west. Stand in the middle of town with a compass and you will see that west is west.

The south side of town is across the Robert or Wabasha or High bridges and up Ohio Street and through Cherokee Park and in there. Very nice. Hardly ever suffers from snobbism.

The North End is out Rice Street or Dale or Lexington or Snelling, whatever gets you north. Yes, once in a while you get somebody who hasn't driven outside of a six-block perimeter in the past 40 years and they level snobby charges against the north side that reveal an ignorance similar to the charges suffered by the East Side.

The East Side is east, of that there is no doubt, but about 90 percent of the snobs who rip the East Side don't even know what they mean, or where. Do they mean Dayton's Bluff? Dayton's Bluff was certainly good enough last year when some big paddlewheel boat steamed into town and people lined the bluffs of Dayton's Bluff with their cameras, and I don't recall anybody getting mugged or anything of the sort.

Do they mean Phalen? I guess Phalen is OK when you need ice to build a Winter Carnival palace. Wendy Anderson comes out of Phalen, as did the late Herb Brooks.

There's Hazel Park and Hayden Heights and Maryland-Arcade, Upper Payne and Lower Payne, Johnson Parkway. In other words, it's just like every other chunk of St. Paul, where you have Mac-Groveland, Crocus Hill and Lex-Ham. The East Side of St. Paul is a vast geographical area east of Interstate 35E that runs from about Larpenteur on the north all the way out to McKnight and then down to Battle Creek.

When officer Gerald Vick was killed last week, I heard the snobs in full chorus.

"Oh, the East Side. That figures.''

No, it doesn't figure. Vick was murdered near Erick's Bar on East Seventh Street. I defy anybody to tell me that they could have predicted that by the neighborhood. Erick's is a neighborhood bar with the classic neon beer signs in a big smoked-glass picture window that overlooks the street. Down the block is the old Viaduct Inn, which is getting new life and good reviews in the newspapers for its menu.

Officer James Sackett was murdered in 1970 on Hague Avenue near Victoria. That about falls into the definition of Cathedral Hill. Back then there was a big difference. We had not yet become neighborhoodists. They didn't have the little fleur-de-lis-shaped street signs back then that said "Historic Cathedral Hill.'' There was no Restoration Hardware selling brass address plates.

These days everybody is so pleased as punch to live in the city and avoid suburban commuting that we have become neighborhoodists who assign a neighborhood name to parcels of real estate no more than a block long.

"Where do you live?''

"Um, we live in the Milton-Chatsworth neighborhood.''

No you don't. You live in St. Paul.

All I'm asking is that the snobs grant the same considerations to the East Side, where there are just as many neighborhoods and neighborhoodists as any other part of St. Paul. And, just like any other location in St. Paul, there are pockets of trouble and stretches of housing in decline on the East Side.

It is interesting to note that around Erick's Bar it is called East Seventh Street. On the other end of town, where there are pockets of trouble and stretches of housing in decline, but more active neighborhoodists, it is called Fort Road.

hmm..

the first post in a few days. nothing exciting to report. well, i did see "revenge of the sith" and that kind of ruled. especially when anakin spoke his own version of w's "you are either with me or against me" deal, and obi-wan responded that only a sith speaks in absolutes.
in other news, mtv is into censorship now, after ruling that NIN's performance at the movie awards should not have a "partisan" theme (a picture of w. as backdrop for "the hand that feeds) -- nails dropped out, rightly so.
in other other news, my kid just asked me for "some water for free." apparently she's been charged for water before? wha?
that leads me to a tangent -- i was probably 7 or 8 and walking down to a parade on burdick expressway in minot coming from the hill across from m&h and i fell down, skinned my knee, and went into a building that i think was a bakery or something and they tried to CHARGE me for a plastic cup of ice to mend my knee. "i'm bleeding," i told them. the bitchy, underpaid employee reluctantly gave me ice. i should have bled on the floor.
i want to find out information about my street, my house and stuff around me. i just looked online at Dayton's Bluff, but technically we are not in that area, or not as far as i can tell. any suggestions as to where to look?

what crap.

"If same-sex marriage prevails, I suspect we'll see both a decline in marriage and an upsurge in out-of-wedlock births, as Scandinavia has."

read THIS COLUMN in the Star Tribune and then be very, very glad that the old bat's email address is right at the bottom. i think she needs to be reminded that she is a hateful creature.

rhubarb crisp attempt

okay, so we have quite a bit o' rhubarb in our backyard, so i picked some, made a lovely rhubarb filling and followed my mom's directions in making a delightful rhubarb crisp. well after the mother-directed 20 minutes, it still looked, well, like the flour-oatmeal-brown sugar-cinnamon topping was quite dry. so i left it to 30 minutes. then nearly 45 minutes hit and as i feared for it's safety, i took it from the oven and gave it that old college try. here is how it looked:

crisp gone awry

it looks quite powdery, no?
so i took a bit and the bottom crust is how it should be.

it's back in the oven and we'll see what happens.

now we're watching "national treasure" because i have the need for mindless crapola. my sister and her husband -- both of whom are very knowledgeable about history -- spoke highly of it. so we're giving it the old college try. my night is filled with the college try.

and after all, isn't nicolas cage our very own national treasure?

T1 or T2?

not sure. i see electricity between two trucks. i see a naked california governator! eek! make the bad things stop! but i still don't know if it's T1 or T2.
now the naked governor of california is naked in a bar, looking for clothing. a woman is sizing him up. given his years of steroid use, i don't know if that is to his advantage.

antique roadshow

just like when people are elated to find out that the $2 vase they found at a garage market is worth between 15 and 17 grand, it's interesting to watch the reaction when some guy thinks that he has the desk that belonged to the brother of napoleon bonaparte and really it's just some guys old desk. but b/c it's old it's still worth five grand.
something tells me that, even when i'm dead and gone for many decades, the furniture i've acquired from target will not carry any sort of substantial value.

save me from myself!

i'm drinking. and watching that antique roadshow program. plan for tomorrow? go to rummage sales, spend five dollars or less on what appears to be kitchy rubbish, sell for real value on ebay.

brie

i have purchased brie and have taken the recommended three lactaid tablets ... we'll see how that works. but enjoying brie is important.
i have also purchased a pair of shoes. they are reminiscent of my old birkenstocks that lasted nearly 10 years, only these are rubbery and, well, inexpensive. please, behold these clogs and imagine them in black, as mine are:

clog

and i'm sleepy. "work is hell" week has passed and i'm both delighted and exhausted. and who in the hell are these people on saturday night live? i see no one but strangers!

so kelley at work called me a nerd on the basis of some blog entries that were pretty much one after the other: bruce campbell, x files and a post from the NIN site.
i thought it should be something i think about, but being 30 now, i think it's safe to say that i'm pretty stuck in my ways. a nerd, she says? i say "why yes, i am."

a comedian i really like

Jimmy Dore is really, really funny.

ahhhhhh!

HOLY CRAAAAAAAAP! AHHH! so many things wrong! superhero! we need one now!

http://edition.cnn.com/2005/LAW/05/23/offenders.viagra/index.html

so angry i can't see straight

every now and then i check out cnn.com and catch up on the news. tonight on cnn.com there are multiple stories of missing/abused children and when i saw the third one, well i kind of want to just put my fist through a window and make bad people pay for what they are doing. and to think about all the stuff that is not making cnn is equally disturbing.
don't you kind of wish we actually did have some sort of superhero who would scare people out of doing horrible shit like this? where's a punisher when we really need one?

THE LOST BOYS
yay for the sci-fi channel on a sunday!
remember how cool the coreys were? Corey Haim and Corey Feldman? i saw the latter of the two on the surreal life on vh-1, but where is corey haim nowadays? do you think the coreys felt rivalry with each other? maybe here's what they may have thought...

Corey Feldman: (to self) I wish I was the hearthrob corey...
Corey Haim: (to self) I wish I could have been in Goonies...

it's finally friday night...

and i'm finally about to go to sleep again. 5 a.m. came WAY too early this morning. not that there is ever a day where i think "wow, this 5 a.m. feels like 11 a.m.!"
abbey is sound asleep, thanks in part to the increased dosage of her medication. she has one more increase (to 5mL 2x a day), beginning monday. hopefully she'll adjust to this alright. it's a little bit nervewracking.
and here is a list of birthdays that have come and gone and in my usual bad-friend manner, i've not acknowledged appropriately:

ellermeeee

jon of shrill.com
derek smyyyythe
and a pre-emptive belated greeting to patrick in minot (may 28, me thinks?) b/c i know i'll not remember to send a card/email/make a phone call/order a strip-o-gram, etc.

and there are crazy people outside right now, yalping at one another from their front door to their patio. the crazies are out.

must...find...time...to...blog

oy, a free moment!
being busy at work is good b/c that means the day will go fast. however that can go to extremes when one no longer has time to blog even a sentence or two! and now i have a free 10 minutes before the kiddo is done with doll time and ready for story time. and my dog is begging for my mike-n-ikes. but i shall not give in.
having a 9 year old kicks ass. she's old enough to do cool kid stuff (biking, fetching own snacks, get an inside joke, understand a film reference) but still little enough to where she likes to hang out with me (our story time right before sleep). and i know that someday she will tell me that she's embarassed by me and will slam the door in my face before putting on some music that i won't like, so i'm enjoying this now.
henry rollins said something interesting about this generation and the music we listen to -- (and i'm paraphrasing here) that we will be a group of people who are more intense than both our parents and our children. and i see that. just from knowing how abbey is right now, i can't imagine her listening to slayer anytime in the future. (although she did say once that she thought trent reznor would be a good babysitter, so i guess anything is possible.)
and i just gave the absterbinder a 2-minute extension on her doll time for purely selfish "but i just got blogging finally" reasons.
oh hell, it's not as though i'm writing anything profound. or even all that interesting.
oh a SUPERB note, it's recently been announced that the ever-talented and charming AMYCITA and her husband, Jub Jub, will be fleeing the city of Boston for MICHIGAN! yay for closer friends! now if we can work on getting Jeg closer...hmmm...
you hear that, Jeg? i'm plotting...

smoking stats

FOUR MONTHS TODAY!!! 1800 cigs not smoked! (yet the crave continues...)

whew...

okay. a crazy few days but now i'm catching my breath and able to process it a bit. my wee girl has epilepsy -- displayed by something sly and sneaky called Absence (or, Petit Mal) Seizures.
in order to control the seizures, she started taking Zarotin last night. i'm hoping it won't be too sedating for her in the mornings at school.
so yeah, it's 5:06 a.m. and i'm awake after a horribly restless sleep. it was NOT easy to get her to take that pill, as she has never swallowed one before. attempts with water were futile, so we stepped up to placing the pill in with a spoon of yogurt and she was able to swallow it easily then. yay for yoplait!
so yeah. stressful. and she is having a hard time understanding what really happens, as she has no memory of it except she'll sort of notice a lapse of time from before and after -- like when she's in school and it happens and she realizes she's fallen behind in what the teacher is doing or saying. i'm just hoping that she outgrows them as many kids do. but for now, we've got three years (starting from the first day of no seizures) of meds to think about. but at least there is something we can do.

things i thought about whilst being tossed about in a mosh pit

maybe the term "mosh pit" is not accurate. not sure if moshing was actually happening -- maybe the term "pushing from side to side pit" is closer. things that crossed my mind in my first (and last) experience of a pit at a large-scale concert:
1. yay! i have health insurance!
2. i must apologize for my elbow in that girl's back
3. did her back just crack from my push? i hope she can still walk.
4. maybe i just need to stand firmly.
5. maybe i just need to go with the wave of movement.
6. maybe i should stop noticing all those 5'2" girls who are being hustled out of the pit for fear of being trampled to death.
7. maybe i should get out of this pit before i fall and cannot get up.
8. i wish everyone would realize that you cannot see trent with all this pushing and shoving.
9. i must exit pit.
(i exit pit and, 1 minute later)
10. i might throw up. wait, no, i'm okay. i can see trent quite clearly.

ahoy!

i'm 30 today!

weird melancholy day

not brought on by anything. just a weird, glum day. maybe i need more sleep. maybe i need less sleep. more caffeine, less soda, more flouride, less bad fats, more good fats.
i think that today is just going very slowly, with it being pretty calm with no massive deadlines looming today --- the opposite of tomorrow, friday and monday.
i kind of wish that offices had the equivalent to a nurse's office in an elementary school -- a room with a cot or two where you can rest up a bit . i need a cot.
or maybe, just maybe, it's time for me to start risperdal again. nuts. we'll see how long this lasts.

in the mail today...

guess what came in the mail today...
CONCERT TICKET!!!!
and what of "with teeth?"
A SOLID, SOLID ALBUM.

it's may 3!

okay, so i get my ticket in the mail today -- hurrah!
and the nin album is out today -- hurrah! (but target doesn't open until 8...feh.)

it's 7 a.m. and i need breakfast. something along the lines of freshly squeezed orange juice, french toast, bacon and some scrambled eggs.
but cookie crisp and a glass of flat coke on the side will have to suffice, as our award-winning french chef has the day off.

i have a pile of clothing/towels/sheets in my room, on the floor, that i need to remove and take downstairs and wash. but it is hard to gather momentum for such an event, as i would need to go at it with a running start and there is not that much space to do that.

the cruel alarm just went off to remind me that i do need to get out of bed today. but it's warm here. and there is a dog sleeping at the foot of the bed.

stomach...growling...must....place....food....inside...

my girl got a vocal solo in her music program this week ---- yay for talented, lovely girl!

12 days, 9 hours of life saved.

isn't that worth a little something?

stupid!

can i just say how f**king tired i am of democrats complaining about how michael moore hurt the party? that statement is what hurts the party. the democrats fear of a vocal person hurts the party. do you ever hear republicans complain about the vocal stylings of Ann Coulter? even when she says crap like this (as posted on Time.com):

"whether they are defending the soviet union or bleating for saddam hussein, liberals are always against america. they are either idiots or traitors..."
--from Treason

"there are a lot of bad republicans. there are no good democrats."
--from CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight, July 21, 2003

"i think we ought to nuke north korea right now just to give the rest of the world a warning. Boom!...They're a major threat. I just think it would be fun to nuke them and have it be a warning to...the world."

and DEMOCRATS think that MICHAEL MOORE is the problem? holy crap.

cats, cats and more cats

holy cats in the house! however one did not make it, and abbey was the one to discover it, so there's a little bit of childhood tragedy for you. but luckily we still have 9 freakin' kittens. and we are shedding ourselves of the Impregnator. and when she is done mothering, we are shedding ourselves of the horribly insane Tinkerbell. she nearly took out Dixie's eye the other night. and by "shedding" i mean "donating to a no-kill shelter."
abbey just said that, if Dixie had lost her eye, we could have given her a pirate patch to wear. and changed her name to Willie, so she could be One-Eyed Willie (props to the Goonies).

in completely unrelated non-cat news, i have set up a bedside table/shelf like unit, and it's amazing how together one will feel when all the junk one accumulates next to a bed has a place to go. all of a sudden, i feel a little bit more like a person. good stuff. my bedside shelf contains:

1 lamp
1 electronic yahtzee game (inherited from my granny edna)
1 alarm clock
1 hair clip
1 pen cup containing many good pens
1 telephone
the second shelf holds the following books:
"Diary" by Chuck Palahniuk
"Bridget Jones' Diary"
"The Bell Jar" by Sylvia Plath (2 different copies, I now see)
"A Writer's Diary" by Virginia Woolf
"Abarat" by Clive Barker
"The Collected Prose of Woody Allen"
"The Huge Book of Hell" by Matt Groening
"Borderline Personality Disorder Demystified" by some guy with many letters after his name
A plain notebook
A journal that I began writing in six years ago.

so now they are all placed neatly on my bedside shelf and it feels all organized and tidy. after i put it all together i thought "THAT'S why people like being neat! it makes them feel normal!"
maybe not "normal," but a little more in control.

behold, kittens!

here we have lickey and her three kittens.

lickey-and-babies

and when there are multiple mothering cats in one household, sometimes they want to "help out" the other mother cats...like, stalk them and steal a kitten or two. see evil tinkerbell below, stalking poor lickey...

stalking-lickey

and here is how excited dixie is to have more cats in the house...

bored-dixie

kitten totals:

okay, so many of you may remember me metioning crookshanks, the earless, mostly tailess cat we took in recently. and how he knocked up our THREE female cats. well all cats have officially given birth and the totals are as follows:
Tinkerbell (evil cat): 4
Wanda: 3
Lickey: 3

So we've got little boxes of kittens all over the effing house until June 1, when they can go elsewhere. So, anyone want a kitten? I'll even give a $10 "i read your blog!" discount off of the $20 asking price...

it's a.....

litter of four kittens...part one. go tinkerbell cat!

SHAME ON YOU!

SHAME ON YOU, whoever "you" are, for making this movie. we rented it b/c hey, it's funny to watch sheer government propaganda sometimes -- until the first hour is over, then you see how it's totally bastardized 9/11 for the purpose of showing how tender and caring our administration is, when they are screwing vets and screwing the lower and middle classes and screwing anyone that doesn't bankroll their campaigns.

sorry. i've gone from playing mystery science theater with this to wondering who initiated this made for tv shite.

an open letter to god. or bill gates.

please leave a bag of money on my porch so that i may buy these:

tickets i don't have

i've been good, god (or bill gates). i've not smoked for darn near 90 days! i don't (intentionally) cut off W. bumper stickered-cars off of the interstate! i brush and floss and eat my greens!

i take in sick animals, i recycle (most of the time), i'm a good mom and a funny person.

please leave 305.00 in american currency with which to pay outrageous ticket brokers who have no conscience but who i am willing to pay nevertheless b/c i'll never again have a chance to see NIN in a small venue.

thank you. and i apologize for not always believing in you (god) and calling you "satan" (bill gates).

THE DEBATES CONTINUE. and there is a whole lotta opinion on abortion from many who will never have one, so girls, chime in!

health care debate

if you have a moment, you should check in on the debate on health care on the CADAVER POLITIK blog. chime in your two cents. hell, chime in your fifty cents. come on, i know you're good for it.

this post will be no good.

so i was adjusting my hair clip to a better fit and i heard the sad sound of plastic breaking right into my very hair! so now it's an ill-fitting hair clip. it's an ugly hair clip anyhow....

hair clip

but it does serve the purpose of "hair out of face immediately" without much fuss. however it PALES in comparison to the dandy of a hair clip from many years past...

banana clip

that's right. the banana clip. but to utilize the banana clip, i would need to also be wearing acid-washed jeans and L.A. Gear hitops. and probably some stretch pants with some scrunchy socks.

and, as a side note, when you are searching google images for "banana clips," you will see, in addition to banana clips and hairstyles from the 1980s, machine guns. true story.

greetings from da springs

abbey LOOOOOVES hiking around the garden of the gods. LOOOVES IT! luckily shane enjoys hiking, too. in my haste to prepare for this trip, i didn't pack the cable necessary to download photos taken thus far, so those will not be here for a spell. but good times all around the springs! and did we "spring ahead" with our time today? we're trying to figure out what time it is...

(it's almost) time for me to fly

and now you can all have the shitty REO Speedwagon song stuck in your head like i do b/c of this crap oldies station on at work right now. i am enjoying a longer lunch break than usual. which i like to do but can't very often.
so we're heading off to denver tomorrow afternoon, where mr. shane august hansen will pick us up and cart us back to his humble abode in colorado springs for the weekend. yay! vacation! all i've ever wanted.... oh bugger, i can't stop this.
and today saw the first thunderstorm of spring and it was GREAT!
tomorrow will be the first time that abbey will be on a plane....hopefully she'll like it and hopefully i can hide the fact that i feel horrible during that half hour process preparing to land.
tickets to colorado: 222 per person
snacks to take on flight b/c they airlines don't offer free meals: 3.99
not vomitting in the plane: priceless.

i was outbid.

so i bid more. i know i won't get the tickets, but a girl has got to try.

the quest for chicago nin tix

okay, so i just bid on ebay for 2 nin tickets -- there are only 2.75 days left of the auction (it just began at 9.99 today) and i'm sure i'll be outbid at some point in time, but i had to give it that old college try. (and that is coming from girl who has been a college junior for three years.) we'll see what happens. maybe it will be an easter miracle. or maybe i'll just spend may 7 at home and pissy instead of in chicago at the nin concert.

what i'm doing tonight

we're going to watch "lost in la mancha." and i'm having a vodka/cranberry. and i'm getting caught up on too much laundry left undone, while rediscovering clothes i forgot i had. dustin is listening to rap in ye olde computer room. dixie is enjoying the nice spring evening on the porch.
i think i have the opposite mindset about my body than i used to have. in high school and early college i'd see myself and i'd see a fatty fatty bo batty. now i see myself in a mirror and i by no means see someone svelte, but i don't look THAT bad. well, i just caught a glimpse of myself in the background of a photo and HOLY CRAP. thoughts i had at that moment:
"did i NOT realize that there was a camera in the vicinity? am i not in the habit of sucking in my stomach? wait...i was sucking in my stomach and i STILL look like that?"
ahh, neuroses.

quote of the day

name the movie this comes from:
"...and you don't want us exposing ourselves!"
hint: a hugely underrated sequel.

just in case you still liked fast food...

okay, i had a tuna fish sandwich once -- homemade -- so when i found a hair in it (i'm gagging as i remember this) i knew it wasn't a tragedy, but the hair in my throat made me vomit.
now replace the sandwich with chili from Wendy's. HOLY CRAP.
nothing can make that okay. nothing.

an odd sensation

not a good sensation. maybe the word "melancholy" should come to mind. it's as though i haven't even the energy to do much at all. in fact, this typing seems exhausting, therefore i shall watch the movie i've just brought home from blockbuster -- "american nightmare" -- i don't expect much greatness, just some minor distraction from my dreary mood.
why dreary? not sure. but dustin just did something really funny.
tomorrow is therapy. tomorrow is work and there seems to be unrest in the midst of my department, some drama that i don't wish to be a part of, but being that i work there, i will be in the midst of it. nuts. i just want to put the newspaper together, send it off and be on my way home. is that so much to ask?
my throat hurts. i think i have the dreaded...um....throat hurt. i know what'll help... booze! only kidding...i'm cracking open a 20 oz. of coke as i write this, b/c THAT will help a sore throat -- an acidic, carbonated beverage just loaded with sugar.
this is me too lazy to move my fingers around the keyboard in an understandable manner...osajkfd;lnmlskjz;cnvm ,l;kjzncvm, nifjhxvbiujscsojohihjivhxvjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
jkvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvvxzwoooooooszjkxnmc,sbfc;xknvmbv sihzjkclhbvouwrghujvkxz;.kjvhh
or it could be some obscure language that only I know.

sunday, sunday, sunday

my throat hurts. it's sunday and i've spent the better part of my day (after dad and leona went back to n.d.) browsing while all the while lacking the critical decision-making skills necessary to actually make a purchase. then i purchased. hurrah!
now we are using a dvd player cleaning dealio and it is taking a long time, which leads me to believe that:
1. our player is filthy
2. the cleaner is non-functional
3. we don't know how to work this damn thing

i'll go with "all of the above" on the lil' quiz.
i'm sleepy.
last night we had some folks over to our humble abode to celebrate dustin's upcoming 28th birthday -- note that his cadaver politik blog (linked at right) has a fresh and shiny new look to it...

time to watch an eddie izzard disc we've not seen...hurrah, twice!

nick and jessica have no fat friends

it's true. at least not any that are on the show. and it's been said that this is their last season of "newlyweds," which means there might still be time for them to show that they do, in fact, have fat friends.

a great joke from abbey

what cartoon character says the most swear words?

roadrunner..."beep beep!"

a funny comment

okay, so i emailed a friend of ours a NIN audio link and this was his reponse...

Subject line: Giddy Boner
Thanx I hadn't heard that yet! "The line begins to blur" gave me a giddy
boner. AAAAhhh! I'm so excited I could poo!"

AWESOME!!! and comments like that is EXACTLY why he is invited to every party we have!

fine! i give in!

okay, here is a synopsis of my post that i deleted:
"it's sunday night. i'm really drunk off of wine...blah blah blah, something witty, something humiliating, something self loathing, blah blah blah." it's as though it was never deleted at all.

Monday, March 07, 2005

guess what movie i'm watching?

here's a clue:
"burn in hell, you little green bastard!"

B.U.I.

blogging under the influence is a bad thing, therefore i've deleted the that post to minimize the amount of people who see me as a total asshat.

sniff..sniff...

dustin tried ticketmaster, but those FUCKING WHORE TICKET BROKERS and everyone else in the free world beat him out in just a few minutes. and i can't afford to pay 100+ per ticket from an evil broker, so i'm missing the concert. shite.

smoking stats

Time Smoke-Free:
49 days, 1 hour, 5 minutes and 57 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked:
589
Lifetime Saved: 4 days, 11 hours
Money Saved: $88.20

hmmm....what would be a good reward for me? i'm thinking maybe some freakin' NIN tickets if i can beat out the rest of the free world on friday at 5 p.m.

woke at 5 a.m. today after a dream that i was pregnant but without health insurance. maybe calling that a "dream" is not entirely accurate.

i should start my day. anyone have any suggestions for checking gmail on a mac os 9 system? i heart gmail, but it's a bit of a snobby program.

BASTARDS!!!

people who buy tickets for concerts that are on presale for the hardcore-list-belonging fans and then SCALP THEM ON EBAY for more than THREE TIMES THEIR PRICE should be BEATEN AND BEATEN AND BEATEN!!!
in answer to your question, no, we didn't get tickets today... the presale tix sold out before we got some. so i guess we'll try again on friday. but i'm really really pissy about those fuckers on ebay who are scalping tix that should have gone to MEEEEEEE!
fuckers. grrr.
SHAME ON YOU!!!!! A PLAGUE ON YOUR HOUSES!
