our subaru has, possibly, a bad alternator. i want to have this alternator tested for free at a place near our house, however ... the alternator has to be REMOVED before i can do this. sure, i could wait until dustin is home from work tonight. i could. BUT that doesn't fit with my instant gratification schedule, therefore I, KARI LARSON, WILL REMOVE AN ALTERNATOR ALL BY MYSELF.
i think. i dunno. i'll try.
why didn't i take the auto mechanics class they taught in high school? was i too good for it? because i could kick my own ass for not doing it then.

Removing an alternator isn't that hard, it is usually just a couple of bolts holding it to the engine block, an electrical connector plug, and the belt. However, if you haven't seen how to remove a belt from an alternator pully using the tensioner pully, I would wait until someone shows you how the first time. Another thing is that carmakers put alternators in weird locations sometimes. On amy's saturn, it is located behind the passenger wheel well. Nothing like having to pull a tire and mudshield just to get at the alternator.

our alternator is in a decent location, but that whole belt business makes me nervous. but thanks for the advice, jubjub!
